I have never had good skin, despite expensive facials at medical spas and spending tons of money on products. What product made a difference for you?

How do you become a make-up artist?

I want to apply makeup for a living and I was told to go to school to become an esthetician but when I started we learned alot about spas but very little about makeup. I'm not interested in learning about facials and massages..just makeup. So is there a school or classes that I can go to that is just for makeup? Also how do you get a job at a makeup counter?

medical spa vs dermatologist?

I am highly considered LASER hair treatment for my chin. In the beginning it used to be this service was only at the dermatologist office now I see LASER hair removal at "medical spas" and I'm quite certain these are not MD's but trained technicians.

Anyway, as far as training, price, instruments, experience, and value is one any different or better than the other??

Can i go in a spa, with my period?

im going away to a resort, that has spas and saunas (yay)
but im due for my period and now i am not sure what to do, i cant wear tampons (medical reasons) can i still go in the spa and sauna? or will blood leak out everywhere. I know i cant wear a pad because it will float out of my bikini in water :S

can i still go :S I DONT WANT TO MISS OUT ON THE FUN !

im a licensed esthetician.. and im having trouble finding a job.. most of the spas wants someone with at least 1 year experience..
how am i supposed to get an experience if no one wants to hire a non experience esthetician!

I should explain that a bit better.

Right now I am finishing a Hospitality degree and I want to work in spas. My school offers a Spa Concentration, and I would only have to take a few more courses to complete the concentration. Pretty much everything else in my degree, besides my internship hours, are done with. So far, the classes I have taken for spas covered things like types of spas, clients, design, management, marketing, stuff like that.

Right now I am interning at a medical spa in Florida, for a well-known cosm. dermatologist who also owns a day spa ( I occasionally volunteer some of my internship hours there too), so I figured it would be a good thing to have on my resume and could be a good resource. I've considered getting licenced in massage therapy but not really decided on that

My mother says that working in a spa would be too unstable, and doesn't really think it's the best idea. What do you think... are there any good jobs at spas (day, destination, etc) out there that I could do?

What are massage therapist's duties in a medical office/physical therapist clinic?

What does massage therapist does in a physical therapist or similar establishment? I know what they do at spas, but what are their duties at the physical therapist's office? Is it just massage before treatment by physical therapist or some extra duties are expected from massage therapists?
Please, I need as much information as possible. Thank you in advance

Advice from experienced estheticians, please!!! How did you get your foot in the door?

I got my esthetician's license about a year & 1/2 ago, but it's been hard for me to find jobs that would hire someone w/ as limited exp. as me. I worked as an esti last year for about 4 months, loved the work, but disliked the company. I'm not trained in peels, lasers, or any medical spa-type service (but I plan on receiving training soon). I can find a decent amount of spas/salons that are hiring, but more than half seem to be rental, and I don't have the clientele or my manager's license. It's very frustrating for me, b/c I want to be working [as an esti.] right now, but I've just been working the same kind of jobs as before I got my license. I want to keep my techniques fresh, & I worry about not being on top of my skills if I have a break from them, so if I DO have an interview, I'll have practically nothing to show for the time I've been out of school.
Anyone have suggestions? Or how did you find your job? Would you recommend rental once I have enough experience? Thanks.

I recently had a facial where the lady used a needle to get out the blackheads. It hurt quite a bit definetely

more than a pinch, lady said they use needles because it was a "medical" spa and not a frufru spa. She said those kind of spas aren't allowed to use needles it was quite painful has anyone heard of this before? I have had many facials before but none with a needle.
