Cosmetology or Esthetics? Which program should I take?
Hi there, I am going to start beauty school soon and can't decide which class to enroll in.
I have asked this question before and most of the answers were not that great so I'm hoping a new batch of people might get to my question.
First let me just give you some basic information about the schools in my area. In my state you can NOT offer Esthetics services with a Cosmetology License. I'm saying this because some people had told me to do Cosmetology because "they do it all". Here Cosmetology consists of 80-90% hair, and the rest is mani/pedi, basic facials, and basic waxing like upper lip and brows, and then some of the cosmo schools also touch very lightly on basic makeup. It doesn't go as in depth skin care as the Esty classes here so I'm basically at an either or situation.
Why am I having difficulty choosing? Because I am interested in and love many aspects of both, and also have dislikes about both but basically I could see myself as either a Cosmetoogist or an Esthetician.
The only thing about Cosmetology I don't like is manicure/pedicure...I have 0% interest in it and will only tolerate it because I have to for the Cosmo license.
The only thing about Esthetics I don't like is that it seems like there is less job opportunities, and I still find myself wondering about and wanting to do hair.
Some information about me:
I am male, 23, and have been interested in being a stylist since I was 13 and probably even earlier than that. I didn't really know about Esthiology when I was in highschool and recently discovered it about a year ago when researching cosmetology schools. I instantly became interested and somewhat in love with the idea of becoming an esthetician. Its hard to say which one I'd rather be doing all my life but that's what I want, a specialty...I don't want to take both courses and be dually licensed because I want to have a specialty like either being a stylist or skin care specialist...
So if you are either a cosmo or an esty, please give me som advice on how you chose your program or if you were faced with a similar situation...all advice welcome. I don't know why its been so hard to choose because you'd think one would jump out and be like hello its meee pick meee but it hasn't happened like that...
Anywho im rambling, i thank all of you in advance for your wonderful answers. Thanks so much!

Where can I find a video of a brazillian wax being preformed?
I'm going through school as an esthetician, and we are not required to learn how to do brazillian waxes, and a lot of women in my class don't care to. But I am interested in learning every aspect of this career and would really like some informational videos of a brazillian being done so I can understand the process and techniques used better. I don't want a video that is an off angle so it can't be seen, that wont help me, I need a full view so I can be aware of exactly whats going on.
Thanks!
haha actually yes, all I want to see is a woman getting her "vag" hairs pulled out. So I can learn how to do it. derp.

Should I be embarassed about getting a Brazilian wax?
Ok I'm a 32 yr old mother of 4 who has never been waxed. I usually shave, but am absolutely tired of getting red bumps and ingrown hairs. Im afraid of going to get waxed and having the Esthetician either laugh at me or think "God this chick is hairy". I'm super shy, so how should I go about all this. Please help easy my anxiety.

What is on the esthetician written exam for the California state boards?
I graduated a few years back and I am finally going to take my California state boards to become a licensed esthetician. I ordered the flashcard system to help me study, and it looks like it isn't going to help me at all since it's "comprehensive" instead of straightforward. Can anyone tell me all of the categories on the test and are there any sites or anything that will help me study? I'M DESPERATE!!!!

Looking for the name of a job/profession in skin care?
Looking for a job title/position that deals with skin care. Not Esthetician. More on the medical side. Dealing with abrasions and the like. It starts with a "P" possibly starts with "Para"

How do I go about asking if I can to an Apprenticeship at a spa?
I want to learn more in the Aesthetic field than what they taught me in school. I was talking to another girl who was in the same situation when she got out of school for hairdressing, and she told me that she did an apprenticeship at a nice salon, where they even paid her to be there.
Now for my question, how would I go about asking a medical spa if I can do an apprenticeship with them? Would it be better to ask over the phone, or in person, or e-mail from their website...?? And then what should I say? Something like: "Hello, I just received my esthetician license and I was wanting to extend my knowledge and was wondering if you would be willing to do an apprenticeship for me." that sounds to straight forward/cheezy to me... how should I ask?? Thank you!!

How hard is it to set up your own website for a business purpose?
I am a stay at home mom but also have an esthetician's license. I would like to use my training to do make-up for weddings on the weekends as a side job/hobby. I don't want to put much money into this, but I would like to be avaliable to do make-up for weddings and stuff like that.
The website wouldnt need to be too elaborate, but something that I can show before and afters with and contact information. Is this something someone without any training in the "internet world" can do, and how would I get started?

Why is a chemical peel good for your skin but a sunburn is not?
I understand that chemical peels have risks and should be done by a professional. So idealistically, a chemical peel done correctly will eventually remove fine lines and acne scars but why doesn't a sunburn work the same way? A chemical peel looks and feels just like a sunburn and then eventually peels like one. And it's basically doing the same thing: burning the top layer of skin and "exposing" the new skin underneath. So why is one good and the other damaging? Isn't a burn a burn..... or no?
