Cosmetology or Esthetics? Which program should I take?

Hi there, I am going to start beauty school soon and can't decide which class to enroll in.

I have asked this question before and most of the answers were not that great so I'm hoping a new batch of people might get to my question.

First let me just give you some basic information about the schools in my area. In my state you can NOT offer Esthetics services with a Cosmetology License. I'm saying this because some people had told me to do Cosmetology because "they do it all". Here Cosmetology consists of 80-90% hair, and the rest is mani/pedi, basic facials, and basic waxing like upper lip and brows, and then some of the cosmo schools also touch very lightly on basic makeup. It doesn't go as in depth skin care as the Esty classes here so I'm basically at an either or situation.

Why am I having difficulty choosing? Because I am interested in and love many aspects of both, and also have dislikes about both but basically I could see myself as either a Cosmetoogist or an Esthetician.

The only thing about Cosmetology I don't like is manicure/pedicure...I have 0% interest in it and will only tolerate it because I have to for the Cosmo license.

The only thing about Esthetics I don't like is that it seems like there is less job opportunities, and I still find myself wondering about and wanting to do hair.

Some information about me:

I am male, 23, and have been interested in being a stylist since I was 13 and probably even earlier than that. I didn't really know about Esthiology when I was in highschool and recently discovered it about a year ago when researching cosmetology schools. I instantly became interested and somewhat in love with the idea of becoming an esthetician. Its hard to say which one I'd rather be doing all my life but that's what I want, a specialty...I don't want to take both courses and be dually licensed because I want to have a specialty like either being a stylist or skin care specialist...

So if you are either a cosmo or an esty, please give me som advice on how you chose your program or if you were faced with a similar situation...all advice welcome. I don't know why its been so hard to choose because you'd think one would jump out and be like hello its meee pick meee but it hasn't happened like that...

Anywho im rambling, i thank all of you in advance for your wonderful answers. Thanks so much!

An aesthetician might have scarred me?

I went in to get a facial, and the person doing it told me that I had a whitehead in the delicate skin under my left eye. She used a needle and it really hurt (I have gotten tons of facials before, nothing ever hurt before this). I ended up with a scab there. I showed it to the people in the front desk, and they said not to worry and that it will go away. It's about 2 months later, and I have a dot where this scab was. It's a dot exactly where the needle was inserted. Even if it's just a dot, it wasn't there before and I can't stand it. Is there anything they can do for me? Can they lance it off? It's troubling...
Should I go back specifically to the person who did this to me? I don't know if I trust her. It really hurt when she did it. I'm wondering if I can have another aesthetecian there help me, instead of her.
I didn't expect her to stick the needle in me there, to remove a whitehead. I had gone to her before for facials and never had a problem before this...

Should Estheticians Wear Gloves?

Hello, I was enrolled in Esthetician school a few months back & had to take a leave of absence...When I started to do facials or any procedure where I was touching a client I used gloves...I felt safer using them. My instructor had told me that I should be comfortable touching other peoples skin without gloves...My question is are you an esthetician who uses gloves or not? And how would you feel if you were a client and your esthetician used gloves while working on you? Would you be offended? Or would you like the added security of proper hygiene?

Esthetician..getting back into the field.?

I got licensed about 6 yrs. ago now..time flies.:p I basically worked briefly waxing brows, doing some make up a couple yrs. back,(it was more like holiday help..) haven't done anything since. I like doing natural-based facials, makeup and waxings..anyone in the industry here know if I can do it out of my place, is it known? it has been useless looking for work a(I can only do weekends, as an esthy since companies only have seemed to want someone w/ previous 2+ yrs. experience, so haven't had luck with any salon/spas. Was thinking ppl might be into it if I offer super low prices. Pls let me know, what I need to know in working on my own. (Legalities? and such.)Thanks!!!

Are estheticians massage therapists?

I live in a state where massage has just started to be regulated and we now have to me certified in it. Do estheticians have to be certified in massage to practice forms such as prenatal, deep tissue, hot stone, and other forms or can they practice it under there own license that they obtain to be an esthetician? I understand that they do massage in the services they provide such as facials and body treatments, but legally can they do a massage as its own service.

I have never had good skin, despite expensive facials at medical spas and spending tons of money on products. What product made a difference for you?

How do you become a make-up artist?

I want to apply makeup for a living and I was told to go to school to become an esthetician but when I started we learned alot about spas but very little about makeup. I'm not interested in learning about facials and massages..just makeup. So is there a school or classes that I can go to that is just for makeup? Also how do you get a job at a makeup counter?

Dermatologist: Is there really ANY way to get rid of black heads on your nose?

I have tried OTC stuff as well as facials with microdermabrasion & extractions at a medical day spa but nothing really helps.

And are higher end brands like Philosophy, Murad, etc. better products than OTC drug store brands?

THANKS

Esthetics's career, easy hard fun requirments etc?

I want to be an Esthetician really bad, I've always loved skincare and hair removal. Do you have to be a makeup artist to work in that feild? I just want to give facials and wax people. I'm not interested in makeup artistry at all. Do I have to have a diploma? (I'm still in high scool but considering just getting my GED and going straight for my career.) Also any Estheticians out there, do you love your job? Is it harder than you thought?
