Anybody have a degree that doesnt even use it!?!?!?

Im trying to choose what to go to school for but with the way things are these days im not sure what would be a smart move. I live in north texas, so the top three im not sure about.I dont know if those businesses are doing well or will be doing well here. But they are for sure my passions. Eventually i would like to have my own business/company, so business school wouldnt be a bad idea anyway but i wanna get something else going first. Should i go for.........
-interior Design
- culinary arts
-esthetician/medical
-business
-medical assistant
Please any advice from people who have these occupations or also share these passions. If so, which one, how you do it and are you doing well now?!?!?!?! Also, Medical assistants! Good choice/Bad choice?!??! Anybody please im so confused. I wanna start my life already.................
See the medical assistant thing would pretty much be my easy way. It will always be in demand and its quick and a guarenteed pay check...... The other things i choose because i am good at them and i enjoy them very much. On one hand i do wanna get started right away but then i think will i be happy long term..... And im not thinkin i wanna be a ceo of some coorporate company but more something of "mine". like my own salon or resturaunt or maybe a design firm... My BIG issue is if the economy the way it is, will i be able to get a job as a medical esthetician outta school or at as cook at a nice restuarant or is there a place i could work for where i would be able to do more hands on work in the design field. How High Are The Demands For These Things?!??! Gotta pay the bills!!!
I have a masters in political science. Never used it and spent the last 20 years of my career as a Systems Analyst. There are statistics out there that say most college grads are not working in the field they studied for after ten years.
well business is business, if you want to make a career out of it go ahead, if you want to be like a CEO, Chairman, CFO or any high titles, it will take you 8-12 years to get the education and 12 years of experience. Usually companies look for 12 years experience to hire any high titles.
You can also start your own company if it’s a small business then that would be fine which is easier, than going for a high title.
but yeah sometimes people go to school and get a degree and they don’t’ use it
Like any other college student you haven’t decided waht you want to major in. This is a hard choice that we can’t help with you. But you really need to decide if you want Medical or Design/Culinary. These are obviously completly different but at least you can group two on each side. For example esthetician/medical and medical assistant and interior/culinary. If you want to go into the medical field and you choose medical assistant how will this help you in your long term goal of owning a business? Probably not at all, the esthetician/medical is a professon in which you possibly could. Interior design/Culinary arts are mainly for the "gifted" if you already have this talent and just need help bringing it out…then go for it. If you love it yet you’re not good at it? Then I would consider something else. You need to sit down and think…okay do i want something short term? want to get started right away? Or do you want to study business for your long term goal. You don’t have to nesseccary have to be gifted in anything other than business trade and how to manage a business to own a business. For example most owners don’t do the actual job they pay people to do the jobs well for them. So you’ll have to decide where in the ladder you want to be. If you are young you can try different professons to see what is your calling…odds are we haven’t discussed it yet…probably going to be something you haven’t even thought of it
